On January 28, 2017, Western Region Chapter and the Teacher Training and Development (TTD) SIG of TESOL Arabia hosted a joint professional development workshop entitled “classroom innovation through students` engagement” at the Baynounah Complex in Madinat Zayed.
The workshop was facilitated by Dr. Racquel Warner, Chair for the TTD SIG. She led the 30 participants on an inductive journey of self-discovery so they would be empowered to revise the way they were teaching or revise their learning outcomes in order to incorporate innovative practices in their classroom. The teachers from institutions in the Western region were challenged to adopt and implement very simple student engagement mechanisms, which would lead to innovation in their teaching strategies. The interactive 4-hour event included role-plays, scenario planning and simulation exercises to encourage innovation through engaging classroom activities.
The feedback from participants was very positive and there was a unanimous request for more events of this nature in the Western Region.
Certificates of participation were distributed to all participants at the end of the event. Special thanks to the Baynounah Education complex for hosting the event.
